Formula 1 has the idea of organising two races on the Silverstone and Spielberg circuits, but how is that possible if there are no fans present? The BBC found out what the solution of Formula 1 is.

Empty stands

In recent years the British Grand Prix was one of the races that had a very difficult time financially. With annually richly filled grandstands the circuit was only just able to keep its head above water and that now raises some questions. How can the circuit suddenly organize two races without an audience, where normally one with an audience isn't profitable?

According to the BBC Formula 1 would now consider renting the circuit at least for the British Grand Prix. The organisation also does this for the winter tests and for this it has to be paid from its own pocket. However, it will be necessary, because otherwise the problems will be even bigger.

Formula 1 has to pay

Without races there is no income at all for circuits, teams and Formula 1, where with races without an audience there is. A large part of the income of Formula 1 (68 percent) comes from television. 38 percent of that is the TV rights and the other 30 percent is the payments of the organizers.

With this money and the reserves built up over the years, Formula 1 can now ensure that the sport can start again quickly. By renting the circuit, the circuit still has income and will not go bankrupt, while the sport and also the teams finally get income from the races.
