Max Verstappen was allowed to drive a Formula 1 car on the new Circuit Zandvoort for the first time on Wednesday. The Aston Martin Red Bull Racing driver performed six laps in the RB8 and is pleased with the adjustments to the track.

The biggest changes to the circuit are the unique bends. Both the Hugenholtz bend and the Arie Luyendijk bend have been adjusted. The Dutchman is very pleased with the changes. Talking to Nu.nl, Verstappen thinks that the last turn to the finish line will help with overtaking other cars:

“The last bend is a nice bend. Really special if you go through it. It is difficult to say about catching up because I have not yet driven others, but it will certainly help," Verstappen said.

The entire circuit can count on the approval of the Red Bull driver: “ It feels good and it makes me very happy. It was a nice circuit but with the changes, it only gets better. Turn 3 (the first new turn of a turn) that drops a bit so that you can drive different lines. That is only good for the Grand Prix if you are behind other people."

Exciting race

According to the Dutchman, all fans can get ready for a great race in the dunes near Zandvoort: "I expect the fans to see an exciting race, I'm really looking forward to it."

Finally, Verstappen still wanted to try a lap time later in May. "1.10 should be possible." The current lap record is at 1.19.511.
