Nico Hulkenberg has been left without a Formula 1 seat for next season. The German racer has had a long Formula 1 career, joining the sport in 2010 but will be disappointed to have never got on the podium. Fans and pundits are torn, was Hulkenberg's career a success?

The 2019 Renault driver has had a long career and that is something which is not easy to achieve. Staying in the sport for close to 10 years means that he is a fast driver who teams believed in and wanted to race their cars.

Racing for the likes of Williams, Force India, Sauber and Renault, Hulkenberg has vast experience of the midfield but was never taken on by any of the big teams.

The German has proved that if he had been given the chance at a top team he could have had a very different career. He has the ability to have won multiple races and could even have been a championship contender if put in a Mercedes.

At the age 32, no top team will have him and now even the midfield teams are preferring young talent over the experience that Hulkenberg has.

“It’s been three good years with them and we’ve grown very close like a family," Hulkenberg said. "I’m grateful and thankful towards them for all the highs and lows we’ve had together and I wish them every success for the future.”

Hulkenberg has raced in other series before. In 2015 he contested two rounds of the 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship season for Porsche, winning the 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans in his first attempt. There are options for the former Renault driver but he will still be looking to get back into Formula 1 in 2021.
