Carlos Sainz is confident his team can turn this form around as he looks to hold on to the 'best of the rest' position in the F1 drivers' world championship. Sainz recorded back-to-back P5 finishes going into the summer break, but the McLaren Formula 1 driver hasn't scored a point since the action returned.

The Spaniard is certain the car has the performance capabilities after watching his teammate Lando Norris finish seventh last weekend. He's also been running well in races as well, with a bad pitstop being the course of one DNF.

"The three first races after the summer break have not gone our way but I'm fully confident we can turn this around. The car is performing well and the whole team is focused. There is no reason why we shouldn't keep pushing forward and luckily the next Grand Prix is just around the corner," Sainz said.

"The Sochi circuit is an interesting challenge with plenty of slow-speed 90-degree corners, similar to Singapore, but there are also more unique corners like the long left-hander from Turn Three to Five. I'm ready to give it my all once again."

As McLaren's form dipped, Renault have recorded some of their best results of the season. In Italy, Daniel Ricciardo and Nico Hulkenberg finished in P4 and P5 to help close the gap to 22 points with five races remaining.
