Sunday is set to be the last scheduled event at the Silverstone track, with the circuit's contract running out after this weekend's race. Negotiations for the race at the track are still happening, with both parties hoping to strike a deal beyond the 2020 season.
Hamilton has said to Sky Sports F1 that if the circuit does disappear from the F1 calendar, then the sport will lose so much of "its essence".
"(It's) the ultimate race circuit," Hamilton claimed. "This is a grand prix we can never lose. Formula 1 loses this and it loses so much of its essence. It feels to me 'not while I'm racing'.
"Not while I'm here, I'll fight for it. This has the biggest crowd of the whole year, this has the biggest attendance of the season, and there is no way I would allow that to happen. We have to fight for it."
