Mika Hakkinen has had his say on Sebastian Vettel's penalty from the Canadian Grand Prix and he feels himself and seven-time World Champion, Michael Schumacher had more freedom to race than the drivers of today have.

Vettel was leading on lap 48 of the Canadian Grand Prix when a mistake forced him to run onto the grass and on his return to the track, he almost forced Lewis Hamilton into the wall at turn four. To Vettel's and most spectator's surprise the German was handed a five-second penalty costing him his first win of the season as he couldn't build enough of a gap to Hamilton who took his fifth win of the season.

Hakkinen feels that his old rival Michael Schumacher and himself had more freedom to compete but conceded that if he raced in this era he could've faced more penalties.

"If I look back on my career, I believe that Michael Schumacher and I have had more freedom to fight," Hakkinen said in his column on Uni Bet.

"Perhaps there weren't so many cameras that analyzed our behaviours. We should have suffered penalties of five seconds or worse if we ran with today's rules."
