Gasly fires back at "Fake News" Hulkenberg rumours

Pierre Gasly has fired back at rumours surrounding him being replaced by Renault driver Nico Hulkenberg, describing them as "fake news" as he joins Helmut Marko in shutting down the rumour.

Gasly has had a mixed start to life as a Red Bull driver with results picking up as of late after he achieved his highest finish of the season in Monaco with P5. However, the start of the season was far less successful as he failed to make it into Q3 at the opening two races of the season in Australia and Bahrain.

This mixed start led to the recent rumour that Hulkenberg could be being lined up to replace the Frenchman but Gasly has now joined Marko in putting it to bed.

"This is fake news, there is nothing grounded," Gasly told La Presse.

"I feel the trust of Marko and the whole team, I'm still a long way from what I feel may be my potential.

"I have more important things to take care of like my job, my family and my friends. For me, it’s just bad journalism and I don’t want to comment any further.”

Despite seemingly having the backing of the team, Gasly will want results to improve further so he can keep his spot next season.
