Sainz believes McLaren car "has margin to improve" in Canadian GP

McLaren has scored 22 points in the last three Grands Prix as the British team continue to impress and worry the midfield teams. Carlos Sainz, who finished sixth in Monaco believes the car can improve in Canada.

McLaren's recent success has opened up a 13 point lead over fifth place Racing Point as they start to take command of the midfield. But that doesn't stop their Spanish driver from becoming complacent.

“After three races in a row scoring points we’ve got some good momentum, and we will try to extend that in Canada," Sainz said.

"Monaco was a strong weekend for me personally, but it is already in the past, and we know the car has margin to improve, so now is the time to push even harder if we want to maintain our position in the Championship. Getting overconfident would be a huge mistake at this point."

Like many drivers on the grid, Sainz is pleased to be heading back to Montreal. He speaks of his enjoyment of racing on the track and visiting the city.

"Canada has offered some great racing in the past, and the layout of the track is interesting. It shares characteristics with the street circuits, but it also has some high-speed sectors which are fun to drive with these cars. Montreal is a cool city to visit, and the atmosphere is always very welcoming. I look forward to getting the weekend started," he added.

His teammate, Lando Norris, can't say the same about the area yet. The young British driver has never visited the track before, but his experience on the simulator is enough to give him plenty of excitement.

“I’m very excited to head to Canada and Montreal. It will be my first time there, and the track is one I’ve always liked driving on the sim. It definitely looks like you can overtake and have a bit more fun there," Norris said.
