Inevitably, Carlos Sainz will be compared to his fellow Spaniard Fernando Alonso this season, as his direct replacement in the McLaren team for 2019.
Renault Sport F1 team
Spanish Formula 1 driver Carlos Sainz Junior is the son of two-time World Rally Championship title-winner Carlos Sainz. The Madrid-born driver was part of the talent program of Red Bull Racing, and was transferred to Toro Rosso in 2015 together with teammate Max Verstappen to make his debut in Formula 1. Switching to Renault in 2017, his 4th place-finish under the floodlights of Singapore in 2017 is his best performance so far in his young F1-career. Sainz will move to McLaren at the end of 2018, as he will be replaced by Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo at Renault. Sainz will team up with rookie Lando Norris at McLaren.
