Raikkonen: Balancing F1 and family is a challenge

Kimi Raikkonen has achieved everything there is to achieve in Formula 1 but with the Finn approaching the latter part of his motorsport career he’s admitted his mind is a bit more with his family life than his Formula 1 career.

The Finn won the World Championship in 2007 and has raced for Ferrari, Lotus and McLaren but will line up for Alfa Romeo Racing in 2019. He left Ferrari last year replacing Charles Leclerc at then Sauber with the Monegasque going in the other direction.

The Iceman is now 39 and entering the end of his career as an F1 driver and he admitted at the Geneva Motor Show that his focus isn’t just on F1 nowadays.

"Of course it's a challenge, because you want to be more at home with the family,” said Raikkonen.

“But we drive a lot of races and travel very often.

"Luckily, the work is not far off now, so it's easy for me to get there.

"It's not easy to be separate from the woman and the children, but like that it is, and I think it is the same for everyone.

“I'm away for a week, then home for another week,” added the Finn.
