Haas team principal, Guenther Steiner has come out in support of Kevin Magnussen after the driver recently said he feels part of a group of drivers that are good but not good enough for a shot at the World Championship.

The Danish driver first appeared in the Australian Grand Prix in 2014 where he finished second but he has failed to achieve a podium since in 80 subsequent starts. Since making his debut for McLaren he has since gone onto race for Renault and now Haas where he’ll line up with Romain Grosjean in 2019.

Despite Magnussen’s progress being slow since his debut, Guenther Steiner is still leaving the door ajar for Magnussen to go onto big things.

“He could have two fantastic seasons and we still do not know what will happen in 2021,” Steiner told Danish newspaper BT.

“There may be an opportunity for a great team.

“If this happens, we will be the first to support it.

Steiner confirmed the team's belief in him saying: “We have always believed in him and we would be proud if one day he became world champion.

“Indeed, the new rules could also mean that you can win a race with us.”
