Alexander Albon set the quickest time of testing so far in this morning’s session, pipping Daniel Ricciardo and Lewis Hamilton to the top before lunch.

His Toro Ross teammate, Daniil Kyvat, had set the previous quickest time yesterday afternoon (1.17.704). Albon was using the quicker C5 tyre compound for this lap.

Daniel Ricciardo set his fastest time of testing using one of the quicker compound tyres in the C5 the Australian moved himself with a time of 1.17.785.

Although not as quick as the laps of Kimi Raikkonen (1.17.762) and Daniil Kyvat (1.17.704), it is encouraginf signs for the Renault team to show that they have got pace.

The sessions started off rather quiet with teams doing their installation laps to get the cars ready before a red flag brought out by Landon Norris stopped all movement on track for a while.

He wasn’t going along at crazy speed, the rear of his McLaren just got away from him at turn five and sent him into the gravel trap. Luckily there wasn’t any damage to the car it was soon returned to the garage to then set a best of 1.19.543 later on.

Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes showed more of what people have been expecting from the Mercedes W10, putting in some quick laps and going under 1.18 with a 1.17.977, topping the table before he was pipped by Ricciardo.

Questions were being asked as to whether Mercedes weren’t showing their cards or potentially struggling after the past few days of being down the field with lap times but running a lot of laps. This seems to answer those questions for now.

Robert Kubica’s first lap time was in the 1.55’s whilst he was going around the track with aero gates attached to the car. After many laps he eventually dipped the car into the 1.21’s by setting a time of 1.21.706.

Charles Leclerc put in the work in his Ferrari, compiling a decent number of laps around the track for the morning and setting some fast times, despite making a trip through the gravel late on.

Pierre Gasly wasn’t heard of much through the session in his Red Bull despite completing a good run of laps, he only managed a 1.19.495.

Antonio Giovinazzi compiled 56 laps for Alfa Romeo, whilst Romain Grosjean completed 64 and Lance Srtoll did 41 for Racing Point.
