Grosjean: Haas must handle pressure of bigger league in 2019

Romain Grosjean believes the Haas Formula 1 team has no room for mistakes in 2019 as they have "changed league" by moving near the top of the midfield.

Haas finished eighth in their first two seasons in Formula 1 but last season they leapt up the table to finish fifth in the constructors' championship after a close battle for fourth with Renault.

Team principal Gunther Steiner believes that Haas lost out to Renault, who finished 29 points ahead, because of errors related to inexperience but believed that the Haas was the quicker car.

Grosjean believes Haas needs to target the best-of-the-rest spot in 2019 and to do this he thinks they will need to raise their game.

"It will be a big challenge, especially with the big change of regulation, but I think our goal will be to try and get fourth, behind the top three," Grosjean said to Autosport.

"So we'll have to step up our game. What we've learned is that we changed league, from the back of the midfield to the front of the midfield.

"There are things that you can do, mistakes that you could do, but now you cannot, because everything counts, you need to be more precise, you need to be more accurate.

"But it's been a great year in terms of learning all of that, so the team is now ready to keep improving, keep going and if the baseline of the car is as good as it was [in 2018], there is no reason that we shouldn't be able to fight for fourth."
