Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko, has denied a bid was made to bring Schumacher into the team’s programme.

Rumours had been circulating that Mick, son of seven time champion Michael, was in the frame to be part of Toro Rosso’s lineup for 2019 after storming to victory in European Formula 3.

Schumacher denied Red Bull junior Dan Ticktum in F3 after an incredible second half of the season including a winning streak of five races.

Daniil Kvyat and Alexander Albon make up Toro Rosso’s team for 2019 and Marko has denied he was ever of interest for next season.

"He was never on our radar," Marko told Motorsport-Magazin.

"He is well looked after in his own environment, that's why we have never interfered or shown any interest."

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff had suggested he was on their radar saying: “Maybe one day with us, maybe not. But an exciting young man, definitely.”

Ticktum had been critical of Schumacher’s end of season surge, but Marko tried to play down any wrongdoing from the driver and his Prema team.

"It was amazing. But I'm not there often enough, I just followed Macau closer. Everything was normal."
