Max Verstappen is not easily annoyed, but after the first day in Monaco, even the Red Bull Racing driver seemed somewhat irritated. The Dutch world champion realised after two free practice sessions that Saturday and Sunday were going to be difficult for him, as his RB20 simply did not seem to work on the streets of Monte-Carlo.

Exactly what the problem was at Red Bull, Verstappen could not put his finger on it after Friday's sessions. It was actually one big problem: with the many bumps in the road surface and the kerbs along them, it was almost impossible for the RB20 to go over them quickly. An adjustment to the set-up was not going to make the difference, according to Verstappen; this is a structural problem of his car.

'Verstappen can't handle this in Monaco'

Jenson Button saw Verstappen struggle with his Red Bull and - like Verstappen - has little faith that Red Bull will have solved all their problems for Saturday. The Briton - currently an analyst with Sky Sports - said that Verstappen had an unpredictable car. "On a normal race track you can deal with it and that's Max's strength - he can drive a very twitchy car," the former Formula 1 world champion stated.

"Around Monaco, where it's on the limit everywhere, you can't. Also, Checo, that bouncing is aggressive into turn three and we saw it around other places on the lap as well. They're trying to run it in a place where it's getting the maximum downforce out of the car, but they're going to have to back it off to give drivers the confidence again to push the car." Button said.
