With a new points system looming, camps seem to be forming in the paddock, with some in favour of the new system and others against it. Opinions among drivers are also very divided.

Ocon thinks it's a step in the wrong direction

Last weekend in China, it was announced that F1 plans to introduce a new points system from 2025. With this new points system, drivers who finished 11th and 12th will also bring in point(s). This would make for more interesting battles in the backfield, according to the federation.

Esteban Ocon, driver for Alpine, is not looking forward to the possible changes. " It's putting a band-aid on a big cut," says the Frenchman. Currently, the Alpine driver is still pointless, so he sees some merit in the new count.

"It's a way to help the current situation. I think it would definitely work because we would have scored points today (the Chinese Grand Prix where Ocon finished 11th). But ideally I would like to race at the front and be closer to the other teams," Ocon said. According to the driver, it would only be a small gain compared to what they are trying to do, which is to bring all the cars closer together.
