Marko addresses possible Visa Cash App RB sale

Marko addresses possible Visa Cash App RB sale

9 April - 07:30

AlphaTauri went through a name change to Visa Cash App RB this winter season. Red Bull still own the team, but it cannot be said with 100 per cent certainty that it will remain so in the near future. Helmut Marko was asked at OE24 about the future of the Faenza-based team.

For a year and a half now, rumours have been surfacing that Red Bull's sister team might be expected to join. There has been no shortage of interested parties, as bids were also reportedly received last season. A Czech investor showed serious interest, but received zero response. AlphaTauri (now Visa Cash App RB) was not for sale, Helmut Marko assured.

Less than six months later, things seem to be different again. German media are once again speculating that the current number six in the constructors' championship is for sale. Marko neither confirms nor denies anything, but there are some things to note from the words of the 80-year-old Austrian: "There are many interested parties, but in the end it is a shareholder decision. The price is high for a team, nothing has been decided yet."

As adamant as Marko was in November, he is now choosing his words carefully. With the internal power struggle within Red Bull - with the Thai major shareholder on one side and the Austrian division on the other - a lot has changed in barely six months, and it is possible that this will also have its impact on what Red Bull wants with Visa Cash App RB.

Andretti

Last year, AlphaTauri reportedly turned down an offer of around $800 million, possibly from Andretti. If Red Bull really wants to get rid of its junior team, the Americans, possibly together with General Motors, may well come back with a new bid. Indeed, in late January, Andretti was told by the FIA that its own bid as the eleventh team in Formula 1 had been rejected.
