Robert van Overdijk, the current managing director of the Zandvoort Grand Prix, has been linked to two football clubs in the Netherlands: Ajax and AZ. At Ajax, he is expected to become the new general manager. Alex Kroes, the general manager of the team from the capital, was suspended.

Kroes bought shares in Ajax just before he took the helm at the club. Van Overdijk could also get a position at AZ Alkmaar. Then he would come to work alongside Merijn Zeeman, who comes over from cycling team Visma-Lease a Bike. That football clubs are interested in Van Overdijk does not seem strange.

Not only Ajax and AZ are interested

Since 2017, Van Overdijk has been director at the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort. Partly due to the organisation's good approach, the event has become a leader for other organisers. Not only from Ajax and AZ, but two more professional football organisations are interested in the Zandvoort director.

BNR sports reporter Jaap de Groot reports, "That Robert van Overdijk appears to be hugely hot. He was already the first candidate at Willem II and he was the leading candidate at FC Twente." For now, Van Overdijk is still working in Formula 1, but he could therefore swap this for an adventure in football.
