Norris seriously challenged by Piastri: 'Don't expect anything different'

Oscar Piastri has collected 16 points in the world championship so far, while Lando Norris did slightly less well with 12 points. The former already did amazingly well last season as a rookie, and he is only getting better. Norris also sees this and argues that he and his teammates are making each other better.

"He's obviously improved because it's going to be his second year," Norris insists. "He's a bit more just comfortable. He looked comfortable last year, but now he's even more comfortable. He's doing a strong job. And he did since day one last year already. So I don't expect anything different. And he's going to push me. I'm going to push him. And I look forward to our battles together."

Norris learns from Piastri

When asked if the 24-year-old driver thinks Piastri will make him a better driver, Norris replied. "Yes, he already has. I said since the first test we did last year, pre-season, that he's been on the pace. And as much as our comments and everything always align. You always want a teammate where they can push you." So a big advantage for McLaren is that Norris and Piastri share the same constructive criticism, allowing for great strides to be made with the car.

The two teammates' styles are not exactly the same, but that is not a bad thing at all. "In some corners, we have a different style, and that works. And you can learn from that and make use of it. And sometimes my style or someone else's style works. So if your teammate is a good teammate, you can always learn things from him," Norris concluded.

With 28 points, McLaren currently occupies third place in the constructors' championship. The gap to number two Ferrari is relatively large with 21 points, at the same time Mercedes is hot on the heels of the Woking-based team with 26 accumulated points.
