Albers critical of Horner's qualities: 'Marko ensures success'

If the stories are true, the woman who accused Christian Horner of inappropriate behaviour will come forward with her version of events in the media during this week. That would mark a new chapter in a case that has gripped Red Bull Racing and the whole of Formula 1 for weeks. Christijan Albers, former Formula 1 driver and team principal, understands why the woman would want to seek out the media.

"Because by the way it's all being picked up and it's just being waved away, then you make someone on the other side extra linky and angry. I think a lot more will surface," Albers told a De Telegraaf podcast. In particular, the now 44-year-old analyst is annoyed with Christian Horner, in his eyes the man who caused the situation himself.

Albers also sees that two camps have emerged within Red Bull Racing: on the one hand, there is Horner, supported by Red Bull's Thai major shareholder. On the other, there are Red Bull in Austria, with Helmut Marko and Max Verstappen. The Dutch former driver does not think things will calm down at the best F1 team of the moment until Horner or Marko - and in his wake Verstappen - leave.

Albers wants to see Horner leave

According to Albers, Horner would be wise to pack his bags in this case. He calls it "terrifying" how the British team principal is holding on to his position. "Then still this drive and envy to still be able to get that number one position and just chop everyone's head off," Albers says about Horner.

The overall verdict on the team boss - in his 20th season at Red Bull - is not positive: "If you start looking very realistically: which drivers did he put in the car and which drivers did Dr Marko put in the car? Looking at success. With all due respect, all success formulas come from Marko. So if you really start looking at who has a view on talent, there is absolutely no debate on that. That's just Dr Marko. Who has always made the right choices," Albers said.
