Verstappen does not start 2024 racing year as he had hoped

16 January - 20:15

Max Verstappen failed to win his first (sim) race in 2024. The Dutchman competed in the first race of Real Racers Never Quit (RRNQ) in 2024 and had to settle for eighth place. The sim race was held on the virtual circuit of Daytona, where the US IMSA Championship 24 Hours of Daytona will be completed at the end of this month.

Verstappen, who spent the first few minutes in fifth place, was out of contention for the win after almost 10 minutes into the race after he collided with a rival and spun. Verstappen was able to continue his race, but the gap to leaders was too big to compete for the win. That the Red Bull Racing driver did not finish ninth was partly due to a late crash at the front of the field. The race was won by sim racer Chris Lulham.

Felipe Drugovich, reserve driver of Aston Martin F1, also retired early.
