Former driver critical of F1 schedule: 'Everyone was sick in Abu Dhabi'

Many different drivers complain about the number of races run in a season. Carlos Sainz, for example, thinks there should be changes to a race weekend. Former driver Timo Glock also thinks 24 races is too many.

"The limit should be 20 or 21," Glock told Bettingsites. He continued: "You need to take into account that there is testing in Bahrain before the season. It is so demanding for the mechanics". The gruelling season began to take its toll at the end of the season, Glock observed. "I did not meet anyone in the paddock who did not feel sick at the end in Abu Dhabi. After being in Vegas having the problem on Friday which shifted everyone into a late weekend. They flew from cold Vegas to 30C Abu Dhabi and air-conditioned rooms."

Triple header too much

He therefore thinks ending the season with three races is too enthusiastic. "After such a long season and next season with a triple header at the end I think it is just far too much. It is a risk for drivers but they travel in private jets and can recover," Glock acknowledged. He continued: "Think about the mechanic who works the whole weekend, rips down the pit garage, jumps in a plane in economy and then flies to the next race and has to rebuild the car. That is most demanding to keep the show going."
