For Mercedes, the Las Vegas Grand Prix may not have been what they had hoped for from it. The team of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell are in an exciting battle with Ferrari for second place in the world championship. Ferrari picked up many more points thanks to a second-place finish from Charles Leclerc. Mercedes engineer Andrew Shovlin commented after the race.

"It’s cold and that creates challenges for us in terms of tyre temperature, warm-up, the graining that we talked about. You would certainly say the race on Saturday was a great spectacle. We saw some really good racing and importantly the circuit was actually very good for overtaking," Shovlin said.

Despite lesser results, Shovlin is still enthusiastic

It wasn't guaranteed that racing in the gambling city would be a spectacle. Prior to the weekend, the track was criticised for making overtaking far too predictable. There were 17 corners on the circuit, for instance, but many of them were just faint kinks.

"It is difficult to know before you go to a track, and you race there what the overtaking is going to be like. We are looking forward to going back there next year. It's on the calendar for a good period and certainly we will be able to be better prepared when we go back there in 2024," he concluded.
