It was a huge crash that immediately set a bar for participation in the Singapore Grand Prix. Mike Krack - Aston Martin's team manager - already revealed that there is 'zero percent' chance that Lance Stroll will not appear at the start of the race in Japan either. Three days before the first sessions at the circuit are run, an official update on the Canadian's physical condition has still not been released by the team. However, it is likely that Stroll has had some aches and pains here and there over the past few days.

Coming up the straight during Q1, Stroll lost control of his Aston Martin on Saturday, only to go hard into the wall. Little was left of his car, so Stroll also had to recover for a day from the crash. It was perhaps the worst crash of the season, one that probably would have ended very differently not so long ago.

Brundle praises work on safety

From his Sky Sports commentary booth, Martin Brundle had seen the crash up close. "Congratulations to F1, the FIA, the teams, the circuits, and the medical team for all their diligent safety work because during my time as a commentator let alone an F1 driver that was an unsurvivable crash. Hopefully, he's fit and motivated for Suzuka," Brundle said in his column on the Sky Sports website.

Brundle was also full of praise for Carlos Sainz, who put in a sterling performance in Singapore and took his second Grand Prix win. "Carlos Sainz was the star in Monza in his Ferrari albeit only finishing third on that occasion, but in Singapore, he was the maestro from pole position to the chequered flag. As he said, "I had the headspace and pace in the car to control the race," the analyst said.
