Lewis Hamilton is happy with the changes to the Singapore circuit. The Mercedes driver got to know the new Marina Bay Street Circuit in the first and second free practice sessions and he really liked it. However, he would still have liked to see a fourth DRS zone to encourage overtaking, but this did not come about because some teams voted against it.

Hamilton spoke to the media present at the end of Friday, including Racefans.net. The Briton is very happy with the new tarmac, and the fact that in the final sector, four right-angle corners have given way to a slightly longer right-hand stretch also pleases Hamilton.

It should encourage overtaking, but even so, the 38-year-old driver thinks it will be difficult to get past your predecessor much more often. "I don’t think at the moment there’ll be more overtaking. Maybe there’ll be slightly better overtaking into seven, just because the track is better through that first couple of corners. But I think we need DRS in that new last section.”

The drivers were asked by the FIA for their opinions on the matter. All drivers, according to Hamilton, indicated that they would like to see a fourth DRS zone added, but nothing was subsequently done about this. In fact, the FIA also toured the teams and not all the racing teams were positive about this and voted against the plan.

Reportedly, four teams voted against the proposal. That has gone down the wrong way with Hamilton. "The teams should be for more racing, not against it. It’s interesting to have a few teams that are against it", said the current world championship number four.
