Wolff is watching Massa's legal case "with interest" due to 2021 title loss

Formula 1 is back at the Marina Bay Street Circuit in Singapore, where the famous Crashgate incident happened in 2008. Felipe Massa’s team is pushing hard to win their case, while in Singapore, Toto Wolff and Zak Brown shared their opinions on this question. The Mercedes boss is watching with interest because of the way Hamilton lost the 2021 World Championship in Abu Dhabi.

According to Zak Brown, he has not been contacted yet and thinks this issue does not involve McLaren at the moment. "It was obviously well before my time. I was actually at the race. We've not been contacted. I've not been asked about it. It's the first time I've been asked about it. So it doesn't really involve today's McLaren. A little surprised it's come up now. Not sure what has triggered it now, but we'll just wait and see if it develops further," the team’s CEO said.

Mercedes boss on the incident

Toto Wolff also thinks it is an interesting topic and one that he is keeping a close eye on. "Well, it’s interesting to follow. Clearly, not something that anybody saw coming. The rules are pretty clear in Formula 1. It's just a civil case behind it. It will certainly set a precedent, whatever it is. We're looking from the sidelines with curiosity," Wolff added. 

On the other hand, Hamilton and Mercedes lost out on a World Championship to Max Verstappen in a controversial fashion. Mercedes decided not to take the situation to court in the days after Abu Dhabi 2021. Wolff concluded with an explanation as to why they're looking with interest. "The FIA commented on the 2021 race with a clear statement, so that's why we are looking at it with interest."
