They might be on the brink of a fifth straight constructors world championship triumph but Toto Wolff has no doubt that the Mercedes team cannot afford to let off now. Since the summer break, Mercedes has clawed back their advantage over Ferrari and now lead both championships.

Wolff admitted that despite the lead they hold in both championship's, the team would continue their approach of one race at a time and would not take their points advantage for granted.

"The battle is far from over, so we approach Austin the same way as every other race: take it one step at a time, focus on our job and make sure we bring performance and reliability to the track," he admitted in the team's race preview ahead of the US Grand Prix.

"The Circuit of the Americas has been a good track for us ever since it was introduced in the F1 calendar, but past results have no impact on the current Championship.

"Everyone in the team knows that we cannot take anything for granted, so we will be as diligent as ever, keep our heads down and work hard to get a good result in Texas.

"This Championship fight has been exhilarating and we can't wait for the next chapter in the epic battle of silver and red."

Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton in particular have been almost unstoppable in recent times at the Circuit of the Americas, with Hamilton taking five of the last six race victories at the circuit, four of those with Mercedes in the past four seasons.

Should Hamilton win and teammate Valtteri Bottas or anyone else finish second ahead of Sebastian Vettel, Hamilton would be crowned world champion.
