Verschoor agrees with Alonso and Verstappen: 'Conditions possibly too bad'

Van Amersfoort driver Richard Verschoor recorded the first Formula 2 victory for his team on Sunday morning. In Austria, the Dutchman crossed the line first from P11. The 22-year-old driver dedicated the win to his good friend Dilano van 't Hoff, who tragically died on Saturday afternoon after a crash at Spa-Francorchamps.

"I dedicate this win to Dilano," Verschoor told during the press conference after the main race. Immediately after the race, the Dutchman already told that his mind was mostly with his friend. The sad news did not reduce the young driver's focus: "It wasn't more difficult driving today because I think in the end, as professionals, we, once the helmet goes on, we have to focus."

The Formula 2 driver echoes the words of Fernando Alonso and Max Verstappen, who both doubted whether it was responsible to run the FREC race in the wet conditions. According to the two F1 world champions, the current 'single seaters' have so much spray that drivers' visibility is reduced dramatically."Possibly the conditions were just too bad [to race]," Verschoor agrees.

First win for Van Amersfoort

It was the first win in the history of the Van Amersfoort Formula 2 team, in only its second year of participation in the racing class. "They've been working extremely hard to be more professional and always have a good structure inside the team," he said. According to Verschoor, the victory will definitely contribute to the further development of the racing stable. "We're still building, but I'm sure this is going to give a really big boost."
