For a while, Red Bull Racing seemed to be a bit vulnerable after all, but according to Fernando Alonso, the reduced lead of Max Verstappen and Red Bull was due to the characteristics of the circuit of the GP of Canada. In reality, Red Bull is still far away.

Aston Martin may be very fast in 2023, but there is no limit on Red Bull and Verstappen. The Spaniard does manage to stay close to other Red Bull driver Sergio Perez. He was also catching up in Canada. The gap to Red Bull versus Aston Martin seemed narrowed, but Alonso put it in perspective during the press conference before the Canada GP.

Gap to Red Bull seemed smaller

Alonso: "I don’t know, We need to wait for different layouts and different circuits, as seen in Barcelona just two weeks before Canada, we were 55 seconds, so one minute behind. The leaders. I think it was track specific it was a very good weekend for us [in Canada], but I hope we can close the gap yes."

Aston Martin's battle with Mercedes and Ferrari is more competitive. Alonso: "That’s definitely more interesting for us, I think Red Bull are in their own league this year. So for us it’s important to score points with both cars every weekend and try to keep up the fight with Mercedes and Ferrari which obviously is still hard to believe for us."
