Formula E will make its debut in Portland in the United States this weekend. The city in the western state of Oregon has a fast track, according to the first free practice session. Jaguar Racing's Mitch Evans broke the speed record.

Speed record achieved Formula E in Portland

The New Zealander went a whopping 276.6 km/h in his electric-powered Jaguar race car. His top speed was just not enough for the fastest time in the competitive Formula E field. Evans was in eighth place with a 1.09.694 just behind Stoffel van Doorne of DS Penske.

The fastest time was achieved by René Rast of Neom McLaren. The Belgian drove around the track in 1.09.054. The top three was completed by Jean-Eric Vergne and Dan Ticktum. Sébastien Buemi from Envision Racing was the slowest man on track. He was four tenths of the speeds of the man in front of him on P21, Sérgio Sette  Câmara. The field spread was more than two seconds.

The next free practice will take place at 10:30 AM local time until 11:15 AM. Portland qualifying is also on Saturday at 12:40 PM local time. Sunday's race will take place at exactly 17:03 PM local time..
