'Bridgestone enters tender to supply F1 tyres from 2025'

The FIA is in the process of choosing the Formula 1 tyre supplier for 2025 to 2027. Pirelli may have to make way for a new supplier. The latest rumours are that Bridgestone has also signed up.

With this, the Japanese tyre brand will pursue a return to Formula 1. From 1997 to 2010, the tyre manufacturer was with Formula 1 and was even the exclusive supplier after Michelin withdrew in 2006. 15 May was the deadline for tyre suppliers to sign up and Motorsport-total.com reports that Bridgestone is on the list.

Both the FIA and the manufacturer do not want to confirm anything yet, but the medium does say that there are several sources confirming the news. Bridgestone sporting director Eiichi Suzuku has previously said he is always looking for more involvement in motorsport, including Formula 1. A spokesperson for the company said explicitly not to comment on the news.

That Pirelli has signed up is certain, though. The Italian tyre maker made the tyre deal for 2020 to 2023 at the expense of South Korean Hankook. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, this deal was extended for another year until 2024. The upcoming deal from 2025 to 2027 also comes with an option to extend through 2028.

GPblog contacted the tyre company, and a Bridgestone spokesperson said: "Bridgestone has a heritage of over 60 years in Motorsports, and we will continue to promote sustainable global motorsports activities. F1 is one of the various options that is being considered".
