Lance Stroll is not having a brilliant season so far. Last weekend, the Canadian took a lot of risk at the Monaco Grand Prix, hitting the wall several times and eventually crashing out. Yet former Formula 1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya thinks the Aston Martin driver is underrated.

Now that Aston Martin has a competitive car, Fernando Alonso is on the podium almost every weekend. However, his teammate has not yet managed to finish on the podium. While the Spaniard is third in the championship with 93 points, the Canadian is eighth with just 27 points.

'He needs to come out of his comfort zone'

Despite the disappointing results, Montoya thinks Stroll is better than people think, he told the Sky Sports F1 podcast: "In qualifying, there were times where Lance was really really strong, it’s just, when it’s like, really little bit of go time, you know what I mean, it’s the ultimate thing he is still missing a little bit. Lance has come a long way, and I think Fernando is going to make him a much better driver. I think he needs somebody in his corner to kick his arse and really go: ‘really buddy, like you lost two tenths here because of what?’ You know what I mean, like he needs to come out of his comfort zone."
