Whereas Mercedes wanted to present the upgrades to the W14 in Imola, this has now been moved to Monaco after the race weekend in Emilia-Romagna could not go ahead. However, this could cause problems, according to former Formula 1 designer Gary Anderson.

The W14 will have a new floor, a new front suspension and new sidepods. As a result, the aerodynamic flow of the car is likely to be very different from what it was before.

Anderson thinks Mercedes may well miss the mark by introducing the upgrades next weekend, he says in his article for The Race: "Hitting the track at Monaco in a car that, if it is to be successful, will have to incorporate a re-arranged aerodynamic flow structure could be a problem."

Still, the former Jordan designer sees Mercedes having no choice but to go for it: "From what we know, the car has had to have some major surgery to be able to package the new sidepods and front suspension geometry, so for the team there is no going back."
