After five Grands Prix, Logan Sargeant is still waiting for his first points in Formula 1. In a sport where immediate performance is demanded, rumours are therefore quick to surface that his position is under pressure. Sargeant himself realises that time is a relative term in Formula 1.

Even at Williams, the smallest team in the paddock, drivers have to perform. Initially, your teammate is the frame of reference, and at Williams, Alexander Albon is the fastest of the two for now. Sargeant knows there are plenty of drivers ready to replace him, should the team decide to do so. But elaborate on that? "At the moment. I just have to worry about staying here," he told the New York Times.

'Sargeant has pure talent'

Sargeant is the only American on the F1 grid. With increased interest in the sport in the United States, Williams seems keen - partly for sponsorship reasons - to keep Sargeant on board. But that he only has his seat because he has an American passport? "I’m incredibly pleased that the sport is growing in America, but I think it would be anything but disingenuous to say that Logan’s here for any other reason than I think he’s got this pure talent," team boss James Vowles said.

For now, Sargeant seems confident of his place, judging by the praise he is receiving from Vowles: "He has this insatiable desire to be better, to want more. He’s a perfectionist, and I like that in him," the team boss concluded.
