Horner critical of Drive to Survive: 'That has to stop'

Once again this season, Netflix's cameras will be present in the paddock of Formula 1. The result of all the filming can be seen next season in a new series of Drive to Survive. No doubt there will be a prominent role for Christian Horner, Red Bull Racing's team boss, even then.

In recent seasons, the relationship between Horner and Toto Wolff, Red Bull Racing's team boss, has been a common thread in the series. For viewers, it was a treat at times, but whether there was an accurate representation of reality? Previously, Max Verstappen, for example, indicated that Netflix was rather playing with the facts. Horner now concurs.

'It's a show programme'

"You get to see at the end of the year, they send through some of the cuts and what you don't see is how they've put it with the other pieces," Horner told the podcast Pardon my Take. "So you think, did I really say that? Did I really say the see you next Tuesday word or something like that? And sometimes you think, where's this going? So I think we need that to be removed. And then of course, you see how they cut because you think, well are they giving the guys on the other side as hard a time as they appear to be giving us? And then you see the whole thing come together. But you've got to remember they're making a show." 

According to Horner, it is all about the "Kardashians on Wheels", as he characterises Drive to Surive. Regardless, the series has been instrumental in increasing Formula 1's popularity. A new audience in the United States in particular has been tapped. As a result, the country is hosting three Grands Prix this season: in Las Vegas, Austin and so last weekend in Miami.
