This year's Miami Grand Prix was held at 15:30 local time, but in the future the race may start later. Organisers have since had some discussions about this. The plans are still in their infancy, as discussions have so far been mostly internal.

One thing is for sure, in Miami they are open to it. However, there are some snags, as other stakeholders also have to be taken into account, such as people living near the track (because of the noise) and the wishes of Formula 1 and Liberty Media.

"We have had some discussions about that [making it a night race]," said Tom Garfinkel, organiser of the event. "It's obviously this time of year the weather's a little unpredictable, the weather's been nice this year so far, last year was unseasonably hot, but there's a lot of factors that go into that with F1 and television and everything else so we've got to weigh all those things, but we're certainly open-minded to it."

Is Miami following in Las Vegas' footsteps?

Speaking to ESPN and others, Garfinkel also did not completely rule out the possibility of the Miami race being held on Saturday night in the future, just as will happen in Las Vegas this year. "We're not at a place where we're making a decision right now. I think we're having discussions where if we did it what would it look like."

The Las Vegas GP is scheduled to take place in November at 22:00 local time. In Europe, it will then be morning. So possibly Miami will go there as well. Incidentally, of the 23 Grands Prix in 2023, six are already being run under artificial lights, namely Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Qatar, Las Vegas and Abu Dhabi.
