It was a handsome victory by Sergio Perez, on the streets of Baku, but just as easily the win could have gone to his teammate Max Verstappen. The Dutchman led the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, until a mistimed pit stop threw the win in Perez's lap. Analyst Robert Doornbos, himself a former Red Bull Racing driver, felt that after the race, it was noticeable to Christian Horner that he was a little upset with the Mexican's win.

Doorbos cited to Ziggo Sport that Perez sometimes complains that at Red Bull everything revolves around Verstappen, and he himself does not get a fair chance. "I don't agree with that, but I didn't think Horner's onboard radio was very classy towards the Mexican fans," Doornbos told. "He congratulated Max, and there was still an undertone in it, that it is still a long season, and that he was a bit unlucky with the safety car. That's my opinion. Surely he's indicating a bit that things will be fine."

Specialist on street circuit

Meanwhile, Perez is a serious title contender. Especially on street circuits, Perez is in a class of his own. That was evident on the streets of Baku's historic centre. "He is the King of the Streets! Max did win Monaco once, which is of course insane, but on street circuits Perez is widely known to be, out of 20 Formula 1 drivers, he always has something extra."
