The second red flag of the Australian Grand Prix also resulted in a second standing restart at Albert Park. The FIA's decision to do so has drawn criticism from former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher. The German says the management should be ashamed.

Indeed, Schumacher thinks the situation could easily have been handled with a safety car. Following the crash of Haas driver Kevin Magnussen, the race was halted by a red flag. The ensuing restart from the grid resulted in even more chaos, leading to the session being halted again with one lap to go.

Schumacher furious after FIA decisions

A real blunder according to Schumacher. Speaking to German Sky, he says: "The race could easily have just been run under the safety car at that point. There was almost no debris on the track. The tyres of the cars could have just handled that. "

The restart resulted in chaos, which ultimately still resulted in 95 per cent of the final lap of the race being driven out behind the safety car. The safety car entering the pit lane, the drivers were no longer allowed to overtake each other and drove in a straight line to the finish line. Schumacher: "As race control, you should be ashamed! I'm sorry, but all the choices last weekend were a big joke."
