Williams drivers positive after practice sessions: 'We are in good shape'

Williams has built a much more competitive car this season than last year, the drivers both notice, with Alexander Albon and Logan Sargeant are both happy with feel of the car after practice in Australia.

Williams has had a few difficult years, but they have started to turn things around. In 2020, the British team did not score a single point in the championship; this year, Albon secured a point in the first race of this season.

Albon happy with the car

Albon managed to take one point in Bahrain but had to retire his Williams early in Saudi Arabia with problems. In Australia, he is happy with the balance of his car, although it is difficult to assess where Williams actually stands in the field.

"It's tricky to know where we stand today with the weather conditions. I think we're in a decent place, and I felt very happy with the car during FP1. It's going to be tight out there, but let's see; I'm positive and feel like compared to last year, the car feels much better and we're in the fight," said Albon in a press release from his team.

Sargeant also satisfied

Sargeant had to pull his car over at the end of the first free practice session with problems. As a result, he did not appear on the track in the second practice session, unable to fix these issues. Fortunately for the American, this practice was not representative anyway because of the rain, which is not expected for the rest of the weekend.

"A bit of a messy first day here in Australia. I think generally, the pace isn't too bad, and I felt comfortable with the track right away, so there's plenty of positives to take into tomorrow. I think if we can make the most of FP3, we can set ourselves up for a good qualifying," the American revealed in the press release.
