Franz Tost, AlphaTauri's team boss, has opened up about his future plans. Speaking to Formula1.nl the Austrian told about the end date of his tenure at the Italian racing stable.

Franz Tost has long been the face on the pit wall at AlphaTauri. Under his wings, a 17-year-old Max Verstappen drove his first metres in Formula 1, Sebastian Vettel won his first Grand Prix at Monza in a Toro Rosso and several drivers made the big move to sister team Red Bull.

'Tost is retiring'

Yet 67-year-old Tost knows he will have to hand over the baton at some point. The current team boss of Nyck de Vries and Yuki Tsunoda knows when he will close the Formula 1 door behind him. "Before I turn 70, it will really be done. Then I will go back to Austria and finally ski again." In practice, that means Tost will at least leave the on-board radio after the 2025 season.

Work to do

Before then, the dyed-in-the-wool skier has plenty of work to do. AlphaTauri is not yet where it should be. The Italians hoped to fight structurally for the points this season, but in practice are competing with Williams and McLaren in the rear. Tost previously indicated he no longer had confidence in his engineers. It is to be hoped that the team will soon manage to squeeze some more performance out of the car, so that the the team boss will soon have something to celebrate again.
