Mick Schumacher has impressed in his first months at Mercedes. As a test and reserve driver, the German is in the simulator a lot to help develop the W14 further. George Russell says he is impressed with the feedback the former Haas F1 driver is giving.

Schumacher was hoping for a contract extension with his American employer, but Guenther Steiner decided in favour of Nico Hulkenberg. All the spots at the other teams were already taken, so Schumacher was left with nothing but to sign somewhere as a third driver. That became Mercedes (as a replacement for Nyck de Vries) and the formation from Brackley thrives on that if Russell is to be believed.

Schumacher an asset

"Mick is very well integrated into the team. He helps where he can and was often at the side of the track during testing last week to analyse how the different cars were behaving. He passed on his feedback to the engineers," the 25-year-old Briton explained in the press conference. "Mick also does the necessary work in the simulator and he is really an asset to the team and a real help for us."

Schumacher hopes to return to the pinnacle of motorsport in 2024. The son of record champion Michael Schumacher could then put his experience gained at Mercedes to good use with another team. Russell helps his teammate hope so: "I hope he gets the chance to return to Formula 1 next year and if he keeps working like this, he will definitely succeed."
