Alex Albon is entering his second season at Williams. In his first, he showed himself a more than worthy successor to George Russell, with some strong performances. Yet he and his team did not manage to make the permanent step to the midfield (yet) and finished last in the championship.

For 2023, Albon has set an important goal. "My main target is to see progress," Albon said to GPblog. "I think if we can improve from where we were last year. And, you know, you can easily say well, that's not hard. But in this world, the Formula 1 teams race with the new regs changing so much. The downforce and everything is not the same as it was last year. Of course, teams have still managed to recoup the loss and improved on top of that."

No excuses

He continued: "But it's not to say, you know, the other teams are doing a better job, so we just need to make sure that we are progressing. I think on my side, that's scoring more points clearly and being in areas where we can fight more. There were a few races last year where unfortunately, Q1 was all we could do, if we can always be fighting for Q2 and making it into that area of the grid. That area of the back area of the grid. Yeah, obviously more chances,"

Albon has Logan Sargeant as a teammate this season. The American is starting his debut season. Albon thus looks set to become the team leader of Williams, which on Monday presented the new car for 2023.
