Miami city authorities delays its decision on whether to host an F1 race next season.

Yesterday's reports suggested that an announcement was imminent confirming that the Miami track would be added to the Formula One calendar for next season's races.

Formula One owners Liberty Media are very keen to branch the sport out in North America with a second race in the continent - alongside the Texas Grand Prix.

The reports are suggesting that the contract between the two parties could be as long as twenty years, but talks about the deal have come to a halt because of protest groups who are against the idea.

The Miami Herald reported that a conclusive decision about the hosting would be made on July 26, but now there is no decision set to be made until after the City Commission's scheduled recess in August.

Miami residents are against the idea because of how it will effect their city when it's race weekend - with potential road closures, noise pollution and traffic concerns.

But despite the delay it is still expected that the Miami track will be on the Formula One calendar come 2019.

"We want to make sure we do this right," city manager Emilio Gonzalez told Reuters.

"It's a big event."
