Fred Vasseur appears to be one step closer to succeeding Mattia Binotto as team boss at Ferrari. The 54-year-old Frenchman is leaving as team boss at Alfa Romeo, so an announcement of his move to the Italian racing stable seems to be coming soon.

Vasseur leaves Alfa Romeo

The Alfa Romeo Formula 1 team has announced on its official website that Vasseur is stepping down as team boss. All indications are that he is heading to Ferrari, where he is to succeed Binotto and bring order to the team. Both parties thank each other for working together for the past six years.

"I am proud of the job we collectively have done as a team and a company, and even more so of the strong foundations we have laid for what’s to come next: but what I am the proudest of is the people that made this all possible, which in time have become friends," Vasseur said in his statement.

The news about Vasseur comes shortly after the announced departure of Jost Capito at Williams and just hours after reports about Andreas Seidl, who would also step down as team boss at McLaren in exchange for a role at Audi. An official announcement from Ferrari is expected soon.
