Lewis Hamilton foresees "many more Championships" in Formula 1 after a disappointing 2022 season comes to an end with a DNF in Abu Dhabi. The British driver hopes their poor performance across 2022 provides them with the tools for future years.

No title

For the first time since 2014, Mercedes depart from the Yas Marina Circuit without a World Championship. Their run of eight Constructors' Championships has ended and the German team were beaten by Ferrari to P2 in the standings. Despite this, Hamilton hopes for a celebration in the coming weeks.

"We'll be back at the factory and get to see everyone. Whilst we are not celebrating a world championship, we will be celebrating them for their hard work and efforts. I hope the struggles this year provide us with the tools to fight for many more championships moving forward," Hamilton told Sky Sports

Team boss Toto Wolff described the year as "team building". Hamilton agrees with his boss and confidently foresees future titles as a result. "I think we started with a car that we didn't want and finished with a car we didn't want. We were basically stuck with it. We kept working away. It's been more of a team-building exercise this year. Proud of everyone."

Hamilton's hopes of a points finish came to an end in the last two laps. Hamilton recorded the team's first mechanical DNF of the season. It's unclear if the Brit's trip over the kerbs caused this, but he did describe the issues it caused.

"Basically we've got a bit right under the seat, the front of the floor took a big hit. I think that would've fallen back a bit and we lost performance a bit. I lost the balance, it shifted forward. I had to wait until the stop to take off some wing, the car was better after that," Hamilton said.
