Steiner believes Grosjean confidence has returned following Austrian success

Based on his form, you would be excused for expecting another disappointing weekend for Romain Grosjean, but Austria brought the best out of the Frenchman, as he stormed to fourth place and his best finish for Haas.

We have seen Grosjean’s sizeable talent before, most notably in his Lotus days when he stepped on the podium ten times, but fans were starting to wonder if the 32-year old had lost his touch in the car after his worst start to a season in F1.

Including the end of last season, it had been 12 races since he scored points, at 2017’s Japanese Grand Prix.

The car’s pace has always been there, Grosjean was unlucky in Australia when a pit stop error forced both him and team mate Kevin Magnussen out of the race.

He has also made mistakes, namely in Baku and Barcelona, which explains why he now only has 12 points compared to Magnussen’s 37.

Despite this, Steiner believes that his confidence could be returning after Austria: “We always gave him our confidence. He has been good for us for a long time and we knew he would come back to be the Romain he was last year.

“I hope this triggers lots and lots of points for Haas F1.

"The car was good, it’s not a one-off, we had that more last year, the car performance was more up and down.

“This year, the car performance was there except for Monte Carlo. But we know why. It was a tough weekend but we had to live with it and the rest we know the car is there.

"Sure, if he would have 50 points now, his confidence would be higher. But now he knows he needs to work hard and he can get points."
