The Friday of the Mexican Grand Prix is likely to be the day when the row over Red Bull Racing's exceeding its budget ceiling ends. Both team boss Christian Horner and the FIA will be speaking to the F1 world in an inserted press moment.

FIA and Red Bull come to Mexico with clarity

In this liveblog, we follow the two press conferences taking place in the morning at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodriguez, the circuit of the Mexican Grand Prix. At 09:00 local time, 16:00 Dutch time, the FIA is expected to hold a press moment to explain Red Bull Racing's budget overrun. Before the announcement of this press moment, it was also announced that Horner would speak to the press at 11:30 local time, 18:30 Dutch time. We expect more clarity on the situation that has been dragging on for over a month now.

Red Bull/FIA riot at an end?

Indeed, after inspection of the spending reports of all F1 teams by the FIA, it emerged that Red Bull Racing has gone over the maximum budget in 2021. Aston Martin F1 was additionally alleged to have committed a procedural error. The situation resulted in a riot in the F1 world. After all, the news did not come from the FIA itself, but had been leaked to the outside world. Red Bull Racing's competitors, including Toto Wolff of Mercedes, Zak Brown of McLaren and Laurent Mekies and Mattia Binotto of Ferrari, vehemently condemned the team's actions. The team of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez was unaware of any wrongdoing and, in turn, bristled at the hitherto unfounded fierce condemnations.

However, in the weeks following the leak, which took place before the Singapore GP, the FIA did not hurry up with announcements about the offence and associated punishment. The slow and unclear communication did not help the riot and speculation continued. In the week after the US GP, it was revealed that both sides had come to the table and a penalty was proposed, which Red Bull probably agreed to. The deadline for this was postponed out of respect for the death of Red Bull boss Dietrich Mateschitz, so that the team had space and time to remember him. On Friday afternoon, the riot will hopefully come to an end. With GPBlog liveblog below, don't miss any of today's news.
