Jos Verstappen is proud of son Max Verstappen after the United States Grand Prix. The two-time world champion won his 13th GP in 2022, making an important contribution to Red Bull Racing's fifth constructors' title.

No easy win

"We did it the hard way," Jos Verstappen is referring to his son's botched pit stop at Viaplay. "I knew he would never give up. Of course, with that pit stop it was difficult for a while. At some point, he did get back into the 'swing'. He can push really hard, but then the tyres don't hold up to the end. He really had to build it up. Then he was ready, we saw that."

Verstappen is having a particularly strong season. His 13th win this year puts him on a par with Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel, both of whom have won 13 times in a season. "It's not going to get much better. If you can win 13 races in a season, that's extreme and we still have three races to go," Verstappen said.

Difficult weekend for Red Bull

Red Bull, unfortunately, had to say goodbye to founder Dietrich Mateschitz, who passed away at the age of 78 after a long illness. According to Jos Verstappen, this world title is therefore extra important for Red Bull. "They have worked incredibly hard for it. Very difficult weekend. Then it comes out perfectly," he says. Asked what we can still expect from son Max, Verstappen answers succinctly: "I honestly hope this is just the beginning."
