Logan Sargeant is assured of a seat at Williams for the 2023 season, but the American still needs to gather the final points for his super licence. Team boss Jost Capito has every confidence in the young driver.

During the team bosses' press conference, Capito confirmed that Sargeant will replace Canadian Nicholas Latifi next year when he gets his super licence in Abu Dhabi. Sargeant was in action during the first free practice session in Austin on Friday. The American will also be in action in Mexico and Abu Dhabi during the first practice sessions and he will also take part in the Young Driver Test at the end of the season.

The young driver will also need to get a good result in the final Formula 2 race in Abu Dhabi. In any case, Williams seems to have every confidence in Sargeant to accumulate enough points.

Capito thinks Sargeant is ready for F1

"We feel he’s ready to race under the condition that he has enough super license points. After Abu Dhabi, he will be our second driver next year. I’m a fan of getting young drivers as quickly through as possible in F1. Get him in as quick as possible and find out if he is capable of staying in F1 long term, what we believe he is", Capito says.

Sargeant himself reacts to the news that he may still participate in two free practice sessions this season in Williams' press release. "It was one of the most enjoyable moments of my career so far. I’m very grateful to be given further time in the FW44 in Mexico and Abu Dhabi. Of course, my focus is on finishing my Formula 2 season in Abu Dhabi in the best position possible, and I’m sure my time in the FW44 will keep me sharp and ready for the F2 finale.”
