The 2022 season is not going as planned at Williams. The team is in last place in the constructors' championship. It is the result of a lack of investment in recent years. We shouldn't expect miracles at the team in the coming years either.

Since 2018, Williams has been at the bottom of the championship, with the exception of 2021 when Haas finished last. The FW44 is the car with the least downforce on the grid. "We drove at Monza with our high-downforce package on a low-downforce circuit", the team informs Auto, Motor und Sport. It proved to be a successful race for the team, as substitute Nyck de Vries scored two points with ninth position, but only the top speed was in order at Williams.

In the summer of 2020, Dorilton Capital took over the team after financial problems. More investment was needed if the team was to move forward, as the infrastructure was deteriorating. Meanwhile, much-needed updates have been made such as a revamped wind tunnel and a new machine to adjust the chassis. A test bench for the engines should also be acquired, but this is too costly. According to the German medium, the team therefore buys the power unit and related parts from Mercedes.

Williams likely to opt for Sargeant

"The team needs patience. With Alexander Albon, they have a driver on board who is still young but experienced at the same time. The 26-year-old brings knowledge from Red Bull." According to AMuS, Williams will choose Logan Sargeant as its second driver. The American is not expensive and can grow with the team. "Someone like Nyck de Vries would have been a good choice for the team, but choosing AlphaTauri made sense." However, if the team wants to move closer to the top in the future, there needs to be a complete overhaul of the way processes take place, AMuS believes. "The old processes need to be upended and the whole thing needs to be put back together."
